Now you know in order to turn your body into a firey fat burning furnace, you need to build muscle. Building muscle is like having money in the bank, it is earning you interest in the form of calories burned, even while you are sleeping.

Although you need to build muscle through regular training, there are some foods that you can eat to help build muscle and burn fat, even while resting.

1.Egg Whites

Egg whites have a very high level of protein, an essential component of muscle growth. They also contain the vitamin B12. This vitamin helps your body to break fat down, making it easier to burn.

2. Chicken Breast

Chicken is one of the best sources of protein you can find, one serving can give you as much as 60% of your daily requirement. Chicken is generally low in fat but it is definitly best to choose the breast as this is the leanest part.

3. Fish (Cod, Tuna, Salmon)

As well as containing high levels of protein, Fish is also a rich source of the essential fatty acid, Omega-3's. This helps to keep bad fats out and reduces the the size of fat cells.

4. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the best foods you can eat if you want to lose weight. It has a high fibre content, fat burning anti oxidants and other nutrients that help to burn fat. Altough it is a starchy carbohydrate, these carbs are released slowly giving you energy for long periods. Perfect for weight loss.

5.Yams and Sweet Potatoes

Another starchy carbohydrate, Yams and Sweet potatoes are full of nutrients that aid in fat burning and are low in calories. Like oatmeal they are a slow releasing carb, keeping you fuller for longer and giving your longer periods of energy.

6. Green Fibrous Vegetables (Broccoli, Asparagus, Green Beans etc)

These contain very little in the way of calories and are the best fat burning carbohydrate you can have. They also make an excellent addition to your protein meals (chicken, fish etc). One of the few food groups where overeating every now and again is deemed to be fine.

7. Mushrooms

Mushrooms are a great food for burning off the fat. They are very low in carbs and calories and for a vegetable they have a good amount of protein. Mushrooms aslo have large amounts of potassium, this helps reduce water retention in the cells of the body.

8. Spinach

Spinach is great in the fight against fat because helps to improve liver function. This will help to rid the body of unwanted toxins. It also contains B-vitamins which will help to boost energy levels, perfect for keeping the body going during exercise.

9. Citrus fruits (Grapefruit, Oranges, Lemons)

Citrus fruits contain lots of Vitamin C. This vitamin dilutes fat, making it less effective which in turn makes it easier to release from the body.

10. Apples and Berries

Apples and Berries have a high level of the chemical Pectin. When consumed Pectin helps cells to restrict fat absorption. It also helps the cells to absorb water causing them to release fatty deposits.

Whatever food we eat, our body has to work hard to digest and absorb. There are certain foods that require more calories to digest than their own calories provide. The overall effect of these foods in our body is that of using calories from body in the process of digestion. These foods are free to be eaten at any time. In fact it is encouraged.
