Turn Your Body Into an Active, Fat Burning Machine With Weight Training
We all know that in order to burn fat we need to eat the right foods and exercise. What is not so well known is that to burn fat you need to build muscle. Part of any fat burning exercise regime should always include some muscle building exercise such as weight training or calisthenics.

It may seem odd that in order to lose weight we do something that helps to make us heavier, but the fact of the matter is without weight training your ability to lose fat is greatly diminished. We need to stop focusing on what the scales say and concentrate more on how we look and feel.

Why build muscle help to burn fat?

Weight training helps you to build muscle and increase strength but even more importantly, it helps you to lose fat. The latter is a fact that most people do not realise.

But how does it work?

When we are in rest mode our metabolism is still burning calories. The amount of calories we are able to burn while resting will directly depend on the amount of muscle we have.

Increasing muscle mass speeds up your metabolic rate. In other words, the more muscle you have, the more calories your body can burn while resting. This in turn increases your ability to burn fat.

By not doing any sort of weight training you are also likely to burn muscle tissue as well as fat through doing cardio workouts alone. When you lose muscle you also slow down your metabolism while resting, leading to fewer calories being burned. Some form of weight training is imperative for fast, healthy fat loss.

How to Weight Train in Order to Burn Fat

There are many ways of using weights to shape and improve our bodies. The tips below explain how to effectively use weights to both improve on muscle development and increase your chances of fat loss.

Equipment: The best idea is to join a gym. These places have all the weight lifting equipment you will ever need and there is always someone around who can show you how to perform each exercise properly. They may also run Pump classes where you weight train your entire body to music with an instructor. Unfortunately the gym is not always the best or viable option.

If you wish to work out from home you could think about investing in some dumbbells (preferably ones where you can adjust the weights) and a bench that you are able to work out on. When I first started I had 2kg dumbbells and just lay a plank in between two chairs, but if possible try to get a weight lifting bench that has attachments for performing leg weight lifting exercises.

Anything is better than nothing, and if you aren’t able to get one of those, any bench that is suitable will do.

You can also buy weighted bags that you can strap to your legs for leg exercises. The problem with these is you can’t adjust the weight of them when needed, but they are again still better than nothing.
